Launch of Mobility Scooters for ‘Volunteer Sliema’
Tuesday 14th November 2017 at 2pm at St James Hospital, Sliema.
Volunteer Sliema is a Partnership between SOS Malta and Core Platform and is supported by the Sliema Local Council and St James Hospital. This multi-stakeholder local partnership has developed an innovative community-based response to the needs of vulnerable and elderly people to ensure a reduction of their social exclusion, whilst contributing to a reawakening of the spirit of self-giving and active citizenship within the community through the development of a local volunteer scheme.
Volunteer Sliema seeks to ensure that the vulnerable elderly, and people with a physical disability, feel more mobile and able to access health care and essential services, as well as engage in leisure and community activities. Additionally, Volunteer Sliema will seek to provide emotional support to these groups of people through the creation of a Community Volunteers Network.
Today we launch the provision of electric foldable mobility scooters to promote the mobility of the elderly and those with a disability. Sliema is one of the main shopping hubs with a wide catchment area, we hope that this new service, which is a first for Malta, will develop further through the generosity of our donors.
We cordially invite you to join us in our launch event that will be taking place on Tuesday 14th of November 2017 at Saint James Capua Hospital, Sliema, at 14:00.
